“My Peace I Give You”

On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your level of peace right now?

How do you define peace? Where do you look for it? Peace is something for which we all long, but few of us truly seem to find it for very long. We want the kind of peace that doesn’t depend on circumstances and doesn’t disappear in the storms of life that dump disappointment, pain and fear on us.

Jesus promises us peace in many places in scripture but especially in the last conversation he had with His friends before His crucifixion. It happened at their annual celebration of Passover in Jerusalem, when Jesus instituted the Eucharist. Scholars call the long talk Jesus gave His friends that night (the longest quotation of Jesus in the Bible!) The Last Supper Discourse, but what it really was, was Jesus’ parting advice for how to find peace in a troubled world, found in in the Gospel of John chapters 14-17. Our world is
just as troubled as the world was then. And His advice is just as true now as it was then.

I hope you’ll take some time to explore Jesus’ promises to you-yes you! – by exploring what He told His friends, then and now, about how to find peace that is lasting will be our topic for this four week study.

Commentary and weekly handouts are available.
